Power washing really should be a regular maintenance task, done every year or two as it is in most stratas. Our complex left it way, way too long until the walkways were literally black. But we finally had the work done and what a great difference.
Power washing is one of the easiest ways to improve curb appeal, and that is the easiest way to increase the overall perceived value of any property. Studies have found that curb appeal alone can increase property values by as much as 15%. So it has an important place as part of standard maintenance.
We had JetSet Exterior Services come in to do the initial round of power washing, where they attacked all the walkways throughout the complex, as well as all the cement stairs and landings.
The results are impressive. Where we used to have algae-covered cement landings that not only looked disgusting but also risked permanent damage to the concrete (more about that here), these steps and landings are now clear of algae and clean.
The biggest visible difference has been the walkways, which have gone from black to tan. I had even forgotten how the original color was closer to the color of our siding, for a nice complementary look. Take a look at the difference:

Jetset also looked after the exercise track around the southeast side of the complex, and it transformed that area.

There’s still more power washing ahead, as we want to do doors throughout the complex. These have to wait until we get closer to some planned painting. Doing power washing too far ahead of painting would allow rain splash to bring back dirt onto garage doors, making things difficult for the painters.
